#1 Hey all! I have a Northern Brewer Hullwrecker. I've had this since December 2020 and have brewed quite a bit with this. At first it worked great! Then about 9 months in or so it quit grabbing the grains. I found the "How to clean the grain mill" post in these forums and that fixed the issue.

The kegco mills also use ball bearings and harder rollers than the BC. In case I didnt mention it earlier, the 2 roller kegco, keg king maltmunchier and cereal killer are the very same mill just rebranded. The 3 roller version also has the ball bearing which like max stout mentioned is a superior design.

They are spiral because they have a scrapper so the scrapper does not get caught in the grooves. I used to build the rolls at renn ten years ago and they just started doing spiral rolls.

Up until the late 19th century, most millers used mill stones to mill the wheat into flour. Mill stones always come in a pair. Both are large round stones, with a flat top and bottom and are incredibly heavy. The bottom stone, the bed stone, stands still during the milling process. The top stone, or roller stone, rotates on top of the bed stone.

The Kwik crusher model has a large steel drum with bars welded on that processes the cobs through a screen, then the sized material goes through the rollers. This was for dairy cows.

At least 60+ inLb torque at whatever your speed, but 175 RPM is a sweet spot. Mine is a 1725 RPM 1/3 HP that gives me 100 inLb torque at 172 RPM with aid of a 10:1 ratio gearbox (reducer). This is an easy motor to find on ebay. So, I'd not go any less than 1/4 HP, to directly answer your question. OP. A.

Not a luxury for the heavier mills and motors/drills, and much safer to operate handsfree. I tried to handhold the drill, with the mill's (small) baseboard resting on the bucket. That went well for a few sessions until the mill apparently had locked up upon starting the drill, flipping a hopper full of grain sideways into the driveway.

Devil's advocate: taking apart and cleaning our mill was the difference between a lot of downtime or getting a batch brewed. If there's enough junk gumming up the bearings and the clearance between the rollers and the mill body are clogged up it can create enough resistance that the slave roller doesn't catch. Reply.
